I did it. Yep, I really did it. I started a blog! Why is this such a momentous event? Well, "procrastination" should be tattooed across my forehead, that's why. Some people think procrastinators are lazy. Those crazy, do-it-yesterday people think that do-it-tomorrow people put things off because we'd rather lay on the couch. Not so. I, for one, am a procrastinator because I am easily overwhelmed. When working professionally, I am on the ball and five minutes early. But when it comes to personal tasks, my ideas and intentions get stuck in the enormity of everyday life. I find myself sitting back in a tentative, wait-and-see mode until I am forced to take action.
Well now I am being forced at gunpoint to start a blog. This may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I know my web writing class grade depends on it. I started the class late, of course, but my instructor kindly offered to let me catch up on previous assignments and join the class. I was motoring along until I came to this blog assignment. Screeech, I stopped in a lurch. Oh no, I thought, I don't know how to blog. What do I write about? Who cares what I write? What if I run out of ideas? Questions kept whizzing around until my head almost came spinning off, and I had to go lay down on the couch. (Hmm, maybe that lazy-lay-on-the-couch generalization is not so far off.)
I waited until today, when the assignment was due, and then figured I should get started. (I'm actually way ahead of schedule because I have until 2:55 a.m. east coast time to turn it in.) I decided to create this family blog to share a little of our life with scattered friends and distant relatives. This "Mac Antics" blog will have posts about our Macfarlane family activities to help us stay connected across the miles. I always intend to send photos and stories to the grandparents, but never seem to get it together. I have been married for 20 years to the most amazing man on the planet... do I have a wedding album? No. I have two beautiful teenage daughters... do either of them have baby books? No. But ask me this: do I have a blog? Yes! I do now!
Come back and visit my blog to read stories about our family, see pictures, and leave dumbfounded comments like, "Geez Heidi, is this really you?" I know, it's shocking. I hope to enhance this site as I go along with music, graphics, links, etc. I'm so dang proud of myself that I think I'll go make myself an ice-cream sundae... later.
